Jersey cows are primarily originated from Island of Jersey in Britain. These cows are highly adaptable to any climatic conditions therefore can easily tolerate hot and humid environment in India. They are popular due to high quality of milk produced by them which is highly rich in protein and minerals. Jersey cows comes in various shades of brown, light tan to almost black and their feet are hard black due to which this breed are less prone to lameness. A healthy mature cow yield an appreciable amount of milk which contains excessive amount of buttermilk. They are able to thrive on local produced feed and weighs in between 400 kg to 500 Kg. This breed able to produce more milk per pound of the body weight.
